WELLS, MAINE: With super premium ice cream flavors and
a Make-Your-Own Sundae Bar, "Sundaes at the Beach", on Route 1 in Wells,
Maine has made its mark.
The taste and texture of the amazing flavor combinations, "Juke Box
Gold" style music, bright colors, and the energy and smiles of an exceptional
staff combine to excite the senses and create a truly special experience.
Located along Maine’s historic Route One and situated between Ogunquit’s
famed Perkins Cove and Kennebunkport’s Lower Village, homemade ice cream
fans from across the country, and locally, flocked to Southern Maine’s
newest dessert destination this summer.
All of the ice creams, frozen yogurts, sorbets, and Italian ices are
made fresh on site.
Owners Bob and Natalie Heleniak, who recently purchased the property,
were very pleased with their initial season. "Our goal all along was to
make the very best frozen desserts possible, and I think we have done that
with most of our flavors. We strive to use only the freshest, high
quality ingredients. Our dairy products are fresh and we use the
finest nuts, chocolates and cocoa powders available", said Heleniak.
Pat Skjerli of Colchester, CT certainly enjoyed her visit, "I’ve had
Pistachio ice cream all over the world, and this is literally the best
Pistachio ice cream I have ever tasted!"
Sampling is highly encouraged by the well dressed staff.
Dennis Beaupre enjoyed the intense flavors of the Cape Porpoise Coffee
and Casco Coconut Bay ice creams, but opted for the all natural raspberry
sorbet. "The flavor of the fresh raspberries in the sorbet was amazing",
said Beaupre, "I’ll definitely be back".
That seems to be the sentiment of most of the guests, especially the
kids. "Watching their eyes light up while squirting the fresh homemade
whipped cream on their sundae creations is priceless," said Mrs. Heleniak.
Guests can treat themselves to a make-your-own sundae or a single, "low-tide",
or "high- tide" cup or cone if they prefer. The make-your-own sundae
option allows you to put your choice of toppings on any of the featured
flavors. Ogunquit Oreo Fudge, Kennebunk Kookie Dough, Moody Mocha
Fudge, Casco Coconut Bay, Heath Bar Harbor, Goose Rocks Gummy Bear or Boothbay
Birthday Cake are just a few of over 40 flavors offered.
The Sundae Bar, today featuring "Made in Maine" hot caramel, "Made in
Maine" hot fudge, marshmallow sauce, a delectable strawberry topping, shredded
coconut, peanuts, walnuts, cherries, chocolate and rainbow sprinkles, and
lastly, fresh homemade whipped cream, is kept impeccably clean.
In addition, Sundaes makes their own decorated chocolate dipped waffle
cones. The deluxe cones include jimmies, nuts or coconut on top of
the chocolate dipped waffle cone. Shakes, malts, floats, ice
cream sodas, and the infamous NY Style egg creams are also offered.
From the regionally named classic flavors to the unique limited edition
flavors like Banana Foster’s, Amaretto Peach, Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheesecake
and Pumpkin Pie, the flavors are certainly decadent. For those looking
to watch their calories a selection of frozen yogurts, fat free sorbets
and New York style Italian ices are always on hand.
Sundaes at the Beach will remain open Thursdays thru Sundays until November.
Quarts and ice cream pies are offered to-go. The store is located
at 231 Post Road (Route One), adjacent to the Moody Post Office.
